Innovators for the Charity Sector

We believe that when small charities have the right tools and support, they are the most efficient organisations for addressing society’s deepest and most urgent needs.

The Raiser Manifesto

Why we started. What we believe. Where we’re going.

Our communities are held together by the millions of gifts of time and money that take place every day to educate, heal, protect, empower and advocate for the needs of the world. This is charity, and Raiser exists simply to make this easier.

When small charities receive adequate, and sustained income, they are the most efficient organisations for addressing society’s deepest and most urgent needs. We’re building solutions exclusively for these small but mighty, unsung heroes who make up the overwhelming majority of the sector. Because no-one else is.

Nothing else is worth getting out of bed for in the morning. Everything we build is designed to make difficult things easier, stupid things smarter, and to smash the barriers that good people face as they try to solve the world’s problems.

We don’t have a funding shortage, we have a power imbalance. There’s enough money to go round, but those who hold it call the shots. There is a responsibility on those who hold money to share it fairly. There is a responsibility on those who use it to make a positive impact. We help make this transaction more equitable by building foundational trust on both sides.

The antiquated application form is. AI-drafted bids have just shone a spotlight on the absurdity and inequality of the traditional grant application process as a way of distributing funds. But the solution isn’t in returning to paper forms printed in triplicate, or by fighting AI fire with AI fire. It’s time for a fundamental rethink of how we get more money, where it’s needed, faster.

Accessing the funds to fuel positive change shouldn’t be so hard. But chaos is baked in as small charities battle the many-headed hydra of individual funders’ application processes. 300 words or 300 characters? With spaces or without? Does-this-count-as-one-word? It’s absurd. And it needs to stop. It’s time for systems that prioritise simplicity, efficiency, and equity. We welcome funding partners who want to give small charities headspace, not headaches.

A gift creates freedom. A grant creates dependence. True philanthropy trusts expertise instead of controlling outcomes, backs people instead of projects, and supports the rule-breakers who refuse to play by the rules of broken systems. When funding comes with 52 questions, endless reporting, and pre-defined outcomes, it’s not philanthropy – it’s soft control. Real change needs real trust.

And that’s ok. Life’s too short to acquiesce. We have opinions on things that make it hard for small charities to change the world, and we’ll use our platform as an independent company to share them. If you don’t like them, let’s move on. If you do, let’s collaborate!

The whole paradigm of how small charities are funded and governed needs an urgent redesign, but the system’s not going to change overnight. We’re here until it does. This means: no VC-boosted quick growth and exit. Yes to slowly building value with our communities and making a platform that serves the sector, long-term.
